India's Campaign In The Rio Olympic 2016 Shooting Competition Got Off On A Disappointing Note With Medal Hopeful Jitu Rai Finishing Eighth Place In The Men's 10m Air Pistol Finals.

Star Indian shooter Jitu Rai was way off the mark today in the men's 10m Air Pistol final, finishing a lowly eighth to bow out of the competition in the Rio Olympics. 

India today outplayed Ireland 3-2 to register their first win in group stage games. Indian Men’s Hockey team played an incredible game to score their first win against Ireland by 3-2 in group stage games. Meanwhile, Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna lost match against Lukasz Kubot & Marcin Matkowski of Poland.  

Dattu Baban Bhokanal also gave India a positive by qualifying for the quarter-finals of men's single sculls by finishing in third position.

However, in other games, India has only been disappointed.

Shooting: Ayonika Paul and Apurvi Chandela crashed out of the women’s 10 meter air rifle event after finishing 43rd and 34th respectively.

Archery: After the high by Atanu Das, much was expected from the women archers. But they failed to live up to expectations as Deepika Kumari (20th), Bombayla Devi (24th), Laxmirani Majhi (43rd) all produced below-par performances.

22-year-old Deepika Kumari, who is participating in her second Olympics, only managed to score 640 out of a possible 720 and also missed an arrow in the event to finish to finish the day on a disappointing note for India. The women’s team also ended up at a disastrous seventh position and will have to face Columbia on Sunday to move into the quarters.

Table Tennis: Indian table tennis quartet led by veteran Achanta Sharath Kamal ended its Olympic campaign on the opening day itself as all four players lost their first round matches.

Save Mouma Das, who was blown away by 0-4 margin in just 21 minutes, Sharath and Soumyajit Ghosh got a game each from their respective opponents before going down 1-4. Debutant Manika Batra was the best performer as she lost by scoreline of 2-4.

Weightlifting: India's Saikhom Mirabai Chanuput up a highly disappointing performance at the Rio Olympicsas she could not get an overall total in women's 48kg afterfailing to lift the weight in any of her three attempts inclean & jerk section.

Tennis: It was disappointing day for India in Tennis as World No 1 doubles player Sania Mirza and her partner Prarthana Thombare lost their first round match against the Chinese pair of Shuai Zhang and Shuai Peng.
