Sensex on Monday closed higher by 118.44 points to end at 26,349, while the Nifty 50 of NSE closed higher by 41.95 points to end at 8,128.75.
The BSE benchmark Sensex closed higher on Monday amid buying by investors in select blue-chips even as most Asian markets retreated after Italy’s Prime Minister resigned following a heavy referendum defeat.
Brokers said the emergence of buying in select blue-chip stocks amid hopes that the RBI will lower interest rates at its policy review on Wednesday, influenced sentiments.
However, a weak trend in other Asian indices after Italy’s Prime Minister Matteo Renzi resigned following a heavy referendum defeat, forced investors to keep their commitments restricted.
