Air India, under a huge debt of nearly Rs 52,000, has decided not to serve non-vegetarian meals to economy class passengers traveling its domestic flights to save around Rs 8 -10 crore annually.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said that the move is to save costs, improve service and avoid any chances of mix-up meals.
The Minister in a written apply said, “The annual saving is expected to be around Rs 8-10 crore per annum.”
Sinha to a question if the air passengers were solicited before taking the decision said that the cabin crew members had taken a feedback on serving of non-vegetarian food in its flight or not.
Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju in a different written reply informed that First Information Report (FIR) has already been registered by the CBI regarding the alleged irregularities in procurements of aircraft by the Air India.
Raju informed that erstwhile Air India had placed an order for 68 Boeing aircraft in December 2005 and the erstwhile Indian Airlines had placed an order for 43 Airbus aircraft in February 2006.
