Sanitary napkins now exempt from GST regime
After facing severe criticism from all sections, the central government has finally decided to exempt sanitary napkins from the current Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime.
The decision to remove tax from the sanitary pads was taken during the 28th GST Council meeting comprising officials of federal and 29 states.
“Sanitary napkins have been exempted from the current Goods and Service Tax (GST) regime along with some other products,” ANI quoted Delhi Finance Minister Manish Sisodia as saying.
Sisodia, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister of the national capital, was among the 29 state government officials attended the meeting.
Until now, Sanitary napkins attracted 12 per cent tax under the GST regime. The government's decision to tax sanitary pads was criticised by various quarters.
