Karnataka IT and BT Minister S R Patil on Tuesday met Infosys Executive Chairman N R Narayana Murthy at the company's headquarters here and assured Congress government's support for IT and BT sectors in the state.
Patil also discussed ways and means to develop IT industries in Tier-II cities in the state.
The minister said he recognised the immense contribution of IT and BT sectors to India’s economy in general and that of Karnataka in particular.
Murthy explained that the IT sector could create thousands of jobs with minimum land and power compared to other industries.
"Bangalore contributed almost 50 per cent of state's GDP mainly due to the revenue created by the IT industries. The IT companies in the state had been contributing about 36 per cent of India's IT export. It was the one area where they needed to maintain focus," he added.
