Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the 12.64-km section of Delhi Metro's upcoming Botanical Garden-Janakpuri West (Magenta) Line on December 25.The line was granted safety approval by the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) in November. The Kalkaji Mandir-Botanical Garden line will reduce travel time between Noida and south Delhi. The Magenta Line belongs to the new generation of trains which can run without drivers. An advanced Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling technology will facilitate movement of trains with a frequency of 90 to 100 seconds. "For the first time in India, the trains will run unattended," DMRC chief spokesperson Anuj Dayal said. However, for an initial period of two-three years, the trains will have drivers. Once the service starts, commuters will be able to travel directly to Kalkaji Mandir Metro Station, which is on the Violet Line, cutting travel time by about 45 minutes.
