State-run Horticulture Corporation Has Decided To Harvest Solar Power To Run Hand Carts Across Goa's Beach Belt To Provide Assorted Fruits For Tourists.
State-run Horticulture Corporation has decided to harvest solar power to run hand carts across Goa's beach belt to provide assorted fruits for tourists.
Goa State Horticulture Development Corporation (GSHDC) will procure 20 carts which will harvest solar power for refrigeration of fruits.
The Corporation had procured such carts two years back but could not put that to use due to logistic issues, GSHDC Managing director Orlando Rodrigues said.
Rodrigues said that the old carts would be exchanged with new ones and the scheme would commence from September onwards.
Locals living in the beach belt would be leased out these carts for creating employment, he said.
The Corporation is planning to tie up with farme s from places like Vashi (Mumbai), Satara, Pune and other places to purchase fruits. "Each cart can store fruits up to 300 kgs," Rodrigues added.
