Elaborate security arrangements at Jaipur Literature Festival
Elaborate Security Arrangements Have Been Put In Place For Jaipur Literature Festival, Which Begins On Friday, To Deal With Any Untoward Situation As Witnessed Earlier.
Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place for Jaipur Literature Festival, which begins on Friday, to deal with any untoward situation as witnessed earlier.
A reserved staff of police officials in plain clothes will be inside the venue so that any untoward situation can be handled effectively, police said.
"We gave permission to the organisers on condition that no unwarranted event takes place during the festival.
"The organisers also said that they have asked the participants to be careful and not to do anything which might lead to a problem," a senior police officer told PTI.
"As of now, we have deployed policemen for the purpose of regulation in and around the venue. Male and female staff in plain cloths will be inside and a reserved staff will also be there for contingency," he said.
In 2012, writer Salman Rushdie had to cancel his visit to the festival following protest by some religious groups.
The controversy did not stop with the cancellation of his visit but stimulated when some authors read out a passage from his banned book 'The Satanic Verses' in a session.
The festival was marred by another controversy last year when sociologist Ashis Nandy allegedly made "derogatory remarks" on Dalits, tribals and OBCs at a panel session.
