Police has arrested BJP leader Manish Sharma in West Bengal’s Kolkata with Rs 33 lakh cash. He was arrested from Ranigunj in Burdwan district with 33 lakh rupees in new 2000 denomination currency notes.
Mahesh Sharma had lost West Bengal Assembly elections from Ranigunj assembly seat. He reportedly finished third with just near 18 percent votes.
On Monday, Trinamool chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had accused the BJP of buying land just ahead of demonetisation.
Earlier, there were reports that the Bengal unit of the BJP had deposited Rs. 3 crore in its official bank account just before Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes were scrapped.
