'Encounter Cop' Daya Nayak Transferred To Maharashtra ATS

Daya Nayak, Maharashtra cop famous as ‘encounter specialist’ was transferred to the Anti-Terrorism Squad of Maharashtra police on Tuesday, an official said. Nayak, who holds the rank of police inspector, was posted in the Amboli police station in Mumbai. Daya Nayak joined Mumbai Police in 1995 and shot to fame as encounter specialist in late 1990s.
He has gunned down a record number of 80 gangsters of the Mumbai underworld. Daya Nayak was temporarily suspended from service in 2006 based on allegations of criminal link and disproportionate income by a journalist.
In 2010, the Supreme Court quashed the charges against him and he was reinstated in 2012 and was posted in Local Arms wing of the department.
Nayak was also suspended in 2016 for being on sick leave for a very long time and not joining duty on time. He was posted in the Nagpur area at that time. In the same year, he was transferred to Amboli police station which falls under west region of the Mumbai police Commissionerate.
Nayak has been backed by a good network of informers in the western suburbs and also in the north region. He has been pretty successful experience in detection and arresting criminals by the virtue of his experience.
