India Post Payments Bank: Maharashtra, Goa circle have 70,000 customers since September 1 launch
The Maharashtra and Goa Circle of the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has got more than 70,000 customers since the facility was launched nationwide on September 1, an official from the postal department said on Tuesday.
Chief Postmaster General Harish Agrawal that the Maharashtra and Goa Postal Circle had 42 branches of the IPPB along with 210 access points, adding that 90 per cent of these accounts were opened by postmen and “gramin dak sewaks” in a door-to-door initiative.

Nanded district in Maharashtra had the maximum account holders with the number standing at 5,600. The total number of accounts in the circle was 77,339.
The India Post Payments Bank was launched across 650 districts by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 1. Pan Card, Aadhaar card and a mobile phone connection are mandatory for opening an account free of cost. The maximum balance for these accounts is Rs 1 lakh.
