Assam: Bomb blast jolts Guwahati ahead of Durga Puja, 4 injured; ULFA claims responsibility
At least four people were left injured in a low-intensity bomb blast near Panbazar area in Guwahati on Saturday. Police personnel and security officials rushed to the spot following the incident.
“Security in Guwahati and nearby places has been heightened immediately,†said Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia.
"4 people suffered minor injuries in the explosion. Investigation is at a preliminary stage. Security in Guwahati city will be heightened immediately," he added.
The injured, including a woman were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
The injured in the bomb blast have been identified as Kalpajyoti Talukdar, Taifuddin Ahmed, Naru Das and Bonita Das and each of them have sustained minor injuries.
Meanwhile, ULFA chief Paresh Baruah has taken responsibility of the low-intensity blast, as per reports. The blast was carried out as a mark of protest against the inclusion of Hindu Bangladeshis as Indian citizens in relation to NRC and in future also ULFA will continue to protest, warned Baruah, adding that due to some technical difficulties, the marked spot for the blast got missed.
