3-Storey Building Collapses In Punjab's Mohali, 2 Rescued, Several Still Trapped
Several People Are Feared Trapped Under The Debris, Police Said, Adding That A Rescue Operation Is Underway.
Several people are feared trapped after three-storey building collapsed in Mohali district of Punjab on Saturday, police said. The building, located on the Kharar-Landran road, came down when a JCB machine was digging its basement, they said. So far two persons have been rescued. A rescue operation is still underway.
"Two persons have been rescued. 6-7 persons still feared trapped under the debris. NDRF team and other support staff carrying out search and rescue operation," Himanshu Jain, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Mohali was quoted as saying by ANI.
A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also been called to the site, police said.
Earlier, five people, including four minor students, were killed after two floors of an under-construction building housing a coaching class collapsed in Bhajanpura area in northeast Delhi.
Officials said around 30 students, all minors, were attending classes at the coaching centre when the upper two floors of the four-storeyed building collapsed, trapping them under the debris.
The fourth floor of the building was under construction and did not have a roof, the officials said.
Condoling the death of the four students, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal said he has directed all concerned to provide all possible support for the speedy recovery of the injured.
"Deeply saddened to learn of the tragic deaths including those of innocent children during the building collapse in Bhajanpura, East Delhi. May God give strength to their family and loved ones to deal with this tragedy," Baijal tweeted.
