Jammu And Kashmir: After Seven Months, Social Media Ban Lifted, Internet Access Only On 2G Speed
Issuing A New Order, The Administration On Wednesday Said People Would Now Be Allowed Unrestricted Internet Access With 2G Speed.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to lift ban on the access of social media sites in the Union Territory (UT). However, the internet speed will be restricted to 2G speed only. Issuing a new order, the administration on Wednesday said people would now be allowed unrestricted internet access with 2G speed. Internet services would also be available on landline connections but this permission will be granted following verification. The new order shall be applicable only till March 17 on an experimental basis.
The 2G internet facility on mobile phones was restored in Jammu and Kashmir on January 25 after remaining suspended since August 5 last year after the Centre announced abrogation of Article 370 provisions and bifurcation of the erstwhile state into union territories -- Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
In the earlier order, the home department of the union territory said that there have been reports that attempts have been made to disturb public peace by spreading rumours to incite the general public which necessitated temporary suspension of mobile data services for limited period of time by the authorised officers.
