More than 6,000 people buy ‘alien abduction insurance’ worth $10 million
Florida Company Issues An Alien Abduction Insurance Policy Can Be Bought For A One-time Fee $24.95, Which Includes A Paper Copy Of Your Policy.
Blame in on movies such as ‘Independence Day’, ‘Night Skies’ or the secrecy of Area 51, some 6000 people have legit bought themselves ‘alien abduction insurance’ in case of abduction by the green, lanky beings. Following the viral event ‘Storm Area 51’, a company in Altamonte Springs, Florida, reportedly owned by Mike St. Lawrence, is currently offering limited or comprehensive alien abduction insurance.
According to the company, an alien abduction insurance policy can be bought for a one-time fee $24.95, which includes a paper copy of your policy. Upon purchase, customers will receive in the mail a paper copy of a framed certificate and are then required to pay $1 per year over a 10 to 20-million-year period. The company also reportedly offers reincarnation insurance, asteroid insurance, sarcasm coverage, identity coverage and outpatient psychiatric care.
“I take a very opened mind approach to this, whether it’s happening or not,” St. Lawrence told WBTW News 13. “But if you get one of our policies, show you have a sense of humor about it.”
St. Lawrence says he’s already sold around 6,000 policies since he first started offering them back in 1987. He also adds that the policy which upped since the recent viral Facebook event, is only intended for people with a sense of humour. "I don’t want to try to rip somebody off. The people that come to me, if I think they don’t understand the terms and conditions, that this is tongue-in-cheek, I won’t sell it to them ... When I started most people thought it was completely absurd, and today I’d say 50 per cent of the people think it’s a possibility’’ he added.
