With nearly half a billion animals losing their lives at the Australia's Bush Fires, the unparalleled national crisis seems to hit wildlife the most with annihilation of their habitats, forced starvation, severe burns and of course, deaths. A devastating picture of the Bush fire that is leaving people from all over the world aghast shows a burnt ‘baby kangaroo’ caught in bard wire, possibly while trying to escape the fire.
‘’We need to focus on the preservation of eco systems and the wildlife contained therein...... we may not realize it but this is pushing the human race towards extinction’ the social media account that shared the image of burnt baby Joey read.
Ecologists from the University of Sydney now estimate 480 million mammals, birds and reptiles have been lost since September with the figure likely to continue to soar. Devastating fires have ripped through the states of Victoria and New South Wales in the past couple of days alone, leaving several people dead or missing.
Just last month, Lewis the Koala rescued was forced to be euthanized following his major burns from the fire. Experts add that Koalas have been among the hardest hit of Australia’s native animals because they are slow moving and only eat leaves from the eucalyptus tree, which are filled with oil, making them highly flammable.
Authorities add that at least 19 people have died in Australia’s bushfires, and around 5,000,000 hectares of land has been burned across the country.
