World’s Only Captive Brown Panda Who Was Bullied As A Baby ‘Adopted’
The Rare Brown And White Bear Had Been Ostracised As A Baby And His Mother Is Believed To Have Abandoned Or Disappeared Into The Jungle.
Qizai, the world’s only captive brown panda has been adopted by US-based charity Pandas International. The rare brown and white bear had been ostracised as a baby and his mother is believed to have abandoned or disappeared into the jungle. He had been living in captivity after being found by researchers as a two-month-old cub in a nature reserve in Qinling Mountains in central China.
Researchers took the cub to the nearby Shaanxi Rare Wildlife Rescue, Breeding and Research Centre for medical treatment but his keeper, He Xin, told a daily that other pandas would bully the ‘different’ one by eating his bamboo.
Now a ‘strong’ 10-year-old, Qizai lives under the care of Pandas International in China. Pandas International was co-founded by Suzanne Braden and Diane Rees in 2000 and aims to ensure the preservation and propagation of the giant bear.
