A biopic is a film which is based on the life of a real person and in Bollywood several biopics have been produced. Earlier, many biopics went unnoticed because of less promotion but now time has changed and the audience has begun acknowledging lifetime achievements of these special personalities in real life and on screen as well. So, let us take a look at some of these popular biopics
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013) – Helmed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the movie is based on the life of Milkha Singh, popularly known as Flying Sikh. The film features Farhan Akhtar, Sonam Kapoor in pivotal roles.
MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016) – Based on the life of former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the flick was one of the most loved biopics of all time. The movie unveals story of MSD beyond his cricket career. The film stars Sushant Singh Rajpur, Kiara Advani, Disha Patani, Anupam Kher in pivotal roles.
Mary Kom (2014) – Directed by Omung Kumar, the flick is based on the life of former Indian Olympic boxer Mary Kom and features her struggle in pursuing her boxing career. Priyanka Chopra plays the titular role in the film.
Paan Singh Tomar (2012) – Helmed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, the movie features life of an athlete turned bandit Paan Singh Tomarwas once a Gold medalist soldier from Indian army and later on becomes a bandit in Chambal valley.
Dangal (2016) – One of the most successful biopics ever made in Indian cinema is Aamir Khan’s Dangal. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film depicts story of Phogat sisters where their father personally trains them with a view to earn gold medal for the country.
The Dirty Picture (2011) – The movie is loosely based on the life of a South Indian actress Silk Smitha, who was quite popular for her erotic roles in southern films. The movie was directed by Milan Luthria and female lead was portrayed by Vidya Balan.
Karenjit Kaur (2016) – The biopic of Sunny Leone is not a movie, it is a web-series exclusively available on ZEE5. It tells the story behind Sunny Leone’s real life struggle and what led her to enter the adult industry.
