From Padmaavat to Sanju Films with highest opening weekend in 2018
Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanju was release on June 29 worldwide and since its release the movie has been unstoppable and creating records all around the world. With the positive word-of-mouth, the movie has already collected more than Rs 120 crore and become the highest grosser in its opening weekend this year. The year 2018 has been good for some production houses at the box-office while some faced utter failure despite big names in the star cast which clearly shows that the audience are not blindly going after the star cast but looking for good content in films. Keeping the thought in mind, let us take a quick rewind at the highest the film with highest opening in its first weekend at the box-office so far.
Sanju – Ranbir Kapoor starrer and Sanjay Dutt’s biopic becomes the highest grosser film in the opening weekend for the year 2018 by earning Rs 120.06 crore in three days of its release. Sanju also features Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in significant roles.
Padmaavat – One of the most controversial films of last year which was later postponed to release this year havocked at the box-office as it hit the theatres. The movie bagged Rs 114 crore at the box-office including some preview shows oraganised in the five day extended weekend.
Race 3 – Salman Khan’s latest release and the third instalment of the ‘Race’ franchise churned out Rs 106.47 crore in its opening weekend. The movie also feature Saqib Saleem, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and Daisy Shah in important roles.
Baaghi 2 – Tiger Shroff, Disha Patani starrer action thriller was was the sequel of 2016 film of same name and remake of a Telugu movie Kshanam. Helmed by Ahmed Khan, the movie earned Rs 73.10 crore in its opening weekend.
Raid – The period film starring Ajay Devgn, Ileana D’Cruz and Saurabh Shukla in pivotal roles, the movie was able to earn Rs 41.01 crore in its first weekend. Helmed by Raj Kumar Gupta, Raid’s life-time collection was Rs 142.81 crore
