National Award-winning singer Lata Mangeshkar is celebrating her 88th birthday is receiving best wishes and greetings from all over the world. Fondly referred as the ‘Nightingale of India’, has an illustrious career of over 70 years. She has sung in over 35 languages and over 25,000 songs. Lata didi on the occasion she said, "Should I tell you the truth? I don't feel my age at all. I still feel young. I've never been weighed down by my troubles. Everyone has her share of problems in life. Even when I was young and struggling, and I was happy hopping from studio to studio bumping into other strugglers like Kishoreda and Mukesh bhaiyya’’. Recently, in an interview to a leading daily she said that she would like to sing again if she gets an opportunity but not for Bollywood films. She has received Bharat Ratna in 2001, Padma Bhushan in 1969 and Padma Vibhushan in 1999. There are several other unknown facts of Lata Mageshkar which we bet you didn’t know:
Lata Mangeshkar’s original name is Hardikar. Her father changed her name to identify the family with their native place Mangeshi in Gia.
It was reported that Lata Mangeshkar was poisoned in the year 1962 by her family cook and she was advised to take bed rest for three months and recovered.
Lata Mangeshkar has acted in 8 films from 1942 and 1948. But, she kept her focus on singing. She has also composed music in 5 Marathi films and produced four films.
She held the Guiness World Record for the most recorded artist in the world from 1974-1991. Now, this record is with her sister Asha Bhosle.
