Lisa Ray entered Indian cinema in the year 1994 acting in a Tamil movie Nethaji. In the year 2001, she appeared next to Aftab Shivdasani in a Bollywood film Kasoor. Lisa Rani Ray is a Canadian by birth. Her mother is a Polish and her father a Bengali. She completed her education overseas and she also spent a little bit of her childhood in Kolkata.
She played a lead role in Deepa Mehta's highly controversial Oscar-nominated film 'Water' which premièred at the Toronto International Film Festival.
In the movie, 'Kill Kill Faster Faster', she did some bold scenes where she received raving reviews. She made her Bollywood debut in the year 2001.
In the year 2009, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer. However, in 2010, she announced she was cancer-free due to the transplant. She gave a candid interview on her personal cancer trauma and surviving it, appearing on the cover of the 2010 anniversary issue of an Indian men's luxury magazine.
On October 2012 she got married to Jason Dehni, a management consultant. In September 2018, Ray announced that she and her husband became parents to twin daughters via surrogacy.
