Oscars 2019 Celebrating ‘Black History Month’ with list of Black Academy Awards Winners
The Academy Awards 2019 was all in favour of the Blacks. From Regina King, Mahershala Ali, Ruth E. Carter, the award show fitted to the ‘history-in-the making’ as it also coincided with the Black History Month that remembers some of the most important people and events in the history of the African diaspora doing the latter celebration ‘justice’ with the biggest wins in Hollywood. Creating history with their big wins, these are some of the Black Oscar winners that will soon be embedded in the celebration of the Black History Month:
Mahershala Ali: First in 2016 movie, Moonlight, Mahershala Ali became a two-time Oscars winner as he took home the golden statuette for the Best Supporting Actor award for his turn in Green Book.
Regina King: Bagging her first Oscar win, Regina King King took home the award for Best Supporting Actress for ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’.
Peter Ramsey: With this Oscars 2019, Peter Ramsey became the first-ever Black director to ever win an Oscar for Best Animated Feature for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Spike Lee: An award well-deserved for the veteran director, Spike Lee won his first-ever Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for BlacKkKlansman.
Ruth E. Carter: Not just doing the blacks proud but women in general, Cater became the first black woman to win an Oscar for Costume Design for her work on Black Panther.
