February 3 marks the birthday of veteran actress Waheeda Rehman who turns 79 today.
The diva has been one of the prominent actress of 1950's, 60's and early 70's. Rehman not just mesmerised the audience with her evergreen charm but also with her amazing dancing skills.
Waheeda Rehman had several superhit movies to her name making her one of the top actress of her era.
So as the diva turns a year older, we bring you some lesser known facts about Waheeda Rehman:
Waheeda Rahman never intended to become an actress, instead she wanted to be a doctor. However, she had to make her way to cinema to earn a living post her father's death.
The diva made her onscreen debut with 1955 Telugu movie 'Jaisinha', while her first movie was Guru Dutt starrer 'C.I.D' in 1956.
Waheeda has been a part of almost every genre of film and done every sort of role, from that of a teenage heroine to that of an aged mother and grandmother.
She has played both mother and lover to Amitabh Bachchan . She played his love interest in ‘Adalat’ (1976) and mother in ‘Trishul’ (1978).
Rehman played the lead role for the last time in Sanjeev Kumar's 1971 release Man Mandir, which turned out to be a hit at the box office.
The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and is an inspirational story of Indian wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat.
