Coco Chanel The French Fashion Designer who revolutionised Fashion industry with elegant simplicity
Mademoiselle Gabrielle “Coco†Chanel’s legacy has conquered an impression over the Parisian haute couture for almost six decades. Born on August 19, 1883, in Saumur France, the elegant French fashion designer along with her elegantly casual designs inspired the ladies across the globe to abandon the complicated, uncomfortable clothes – such as petticoats and corsets – that were prevalent in 19th-century dress. Here’s to reminisce about the life of Gabrielle Chanel that unfurled from a small town girl to a big-time Paris fashion designer.
Chanel was born into poverty in the French countryside. Her mother died when she was young and her father abandoned her to an orphanage.
Chanel worked for a few years as a café singer. She even used to sell simple sportswear, such as jersey sweaters in a tiny millinery shop in Deauville, France.
Chanel’s designs particularly stressed simplicity and comfort and revolutionised the fashion industry.
Chanel soon blossomed over perfume industry, textile mill and jewellery workshop. By late 1920s the Chanel industries were reportedly worth millions.
After the death of Chanel in 1971, her couture house was led by a series of different designers.
