Makar Sakranti is observed when Sun enters into the zodiac sign Capricorn. It is also called as Uttarayan. The festival is celebrated in different ways in different parts of India. Where in Bihar, people take bath in ponds and rivers and make special delecacies like chura, sweets made of til (sesame seeds), Rajasthanis prepare sweet dishes like pheeni, ghevar to celebrate the festival of harvest.
