In pictures: Congress manifesto for 2019 Lok Sabha elections
The Congress party on Tuesday released its manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with “wealth and welfare†its central theme. Congress president Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh and other top party leaders were present during the manifesto launch event. In the manifesto, the Congress promised NYAY scheme and a separate budget for farmers. The Congress also promised to pass the women’s reservation bill if elected to power. Rahul Gandhi said that his government would spend six per cent of the GDP on education.
The Congress party's manifesto started with a forward written by Congress president Rahul Ghandhi himself. During the release, the Congress chief said that everything in the manifesto will be truthful. He was joined by his mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and other top party leaders.
The Congress party promised to pass the Constitution Amendment Bill to provide 33 per cent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.
In what could be the game changer in 2019 general elections, the Congress chief announced a separate budget for farmers. He also said that Congress party will make farmers' laon default a civilian offense which is currently a criminal offense.
The Congress party promised to “keep a vigilant eye on the security situationâ€. If returned to power, the Congress said that they would change the trend of decreasing defence spending and make sure it meets the requirements of the Armed Forces.
