First pics of Mumbai footover bridge collapse
At least four people died and over 34 were injured after a footover bridge outside Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station collapsed on Thursday. As per preliminary reports, the two deceased are GT Hospital staffers. Both were nurses, one was a male nurse. They had completed their second shift and were returning home.
The deceased have been identified as Apoorva Prabhu (35), Ranjana Tambe (40) and Zahid Shiraj Khan (32). Traffic has been severely affected and commuters have been asked to use alternate routes. Efforts are on to clear the debris of the footover bridge.
Police officials and ambulances are on the spot. The bridge collapsed during peak hours when there was a lot of rush on the bridge. "The incident took place around 7.30 pm when a major portion of the bridge caved in," an official said.
"Footover bridge connecting CSMT platform 1 north end with BT Lane near Times of India building has collapsed. Injured persons are being shifted to hospitals. Traffic affected. Commuters to use alternate routes. Senior officers are on spot," said Mumbai police.
