Goddess Durga is believed to have nine forms called Navadurgas and Shailputri is the first one amongst them. The Shailputri temple in Varanasi is dedicated to this form of Goddess Durga. Goddess Durga in the Shailputri form is also known as Sati, Bhavani, Parvati or Hemavati. Maa Shailaputri is considered to be the absolute form of Mother Nature. The word Shailputri means ‘Daughter of the mountain’ Here are five interesting facts about Maa Shailputri:
Maa Shailputri was born to the King of Mountains. “Shail†means mountain and “putri†means daughter. As a result, she is known as Shailputri – the daughter of mountain.
Maa Shailputri is the absolute form of Mother Nature. She is also known as Goddess Parvati.
She is the Goddess of Muladhara Chakra also known as Root Chakra who, upon awakening, begins Her journey upwards to spiritual awakening and to their purpose in life.
A half moon decorates her forehead. Parvati and Hemavati are other names of Goddess Shailputri. She rides on a bull, the procession of this Goddess.
