England won the toss and chose to bat first against Afghanistan
England took off a steady start against the Afghans but lost the wicket of James Vince early.
Partnership between Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root build a good partnership for the second wicket but it ended in the 30th over when Gulbadin Naib scalped Jonny Bairstow’s wicket. It was skipper Eoin Morgan who played an outstanding innings and smashed 148 runs off just 71 balls.
On the other hand, Afghanistan openers came out in the middle to chase down a huge total of 398 runs but met with an early blow in Noor Ali Zadran. Then Gulbadin Nabi and Rahmat Shah tried to build partnership but Afghan captain could not keep it strong for long and lost his wicket in the 12th over.
Afghanistan kept losing wickets in intervals, making the total quite impossible to achieve. But, the Afghans managed to play complete 50 overs game and lost the match by 150 runs in the end.
England skipper Eoin Morgan was given the Player of the match award for his unprecedented performance with the bat.
