Crushed lab glass bottles to be used in construction work | Here’s how
Lab glass bottles can now be recycled and used in construction works. The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in Kochi, under the new waste management initiative - Swachhata - has designed the recycling process of glass bottles from laboratories.
The CMFRI has set up a glass crushing unit that will turn them into sand-like shreds which could be used for construction works, the institute said in a release on Wednesday. The unit was inaugurated by CMFRI director A Gopalakrishnan.

The glass recycling unit is designed by Anoop Agustin of the Maintenance and Estate Cell of the CMFRI

The lab glass bottles recycling initiative was a part of the Swachhata programme of the institute.
A one litre glass bottle could be crushed into granules within two seconds at the unit.
Laboratory glass bottles, all refuse glass materials, including tube lights, could be recycled using the facility.
Laboratories could be kept environment-friendly through the proper management of recycling the glass bottles after use, said CMFRI director A Gopalakrishnan.
