Bharat Bandh: Schools, colleges closed in Uttar Pradesh
Schools to remain closed in few parts of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday following nationwide bandh called by various organisations in protest against the Supreme Court’s ruling on amendments under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989. The cities including Hapur, Ghaziabad, Agra, Meerut have issued order to shut down schools as a precautionary measure except those schools which are conducting board examinations will remain open. The Bharat Bandh was called after the Supreme Court laid new guidelines to protect public servants from immediate arrest after complaint is filed against them under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocitis) Act. Dalits were demanding the Centre to file a review petition. However, the protests continued as the Centre filed the review petition on Monday.
