Kaveri Yatra: Why Kolar-the 'Golden town' of India has lost its lustre?

Kolar gold fields, which is located in Kolar District of Karnataka, was known for its gold mining for over a century. The gold mining, however, was closed in 2001 due to low level of gold production. India was considered as the 'Golden Bird' because of the very same region. The people,who once helped in extracting the precious metal, are now left starving for even water.
