Krishna Janmashtami 2019: Shubh Muhurat, Significance of festival

Janmashtami is a Hindu festival which marks the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. He is said to be the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu, who was born to Devaki and Vasudeva so that he could protect the people of Mathura from the wrath of King Kansa (Devaki’s brother). This year, the auspicious festival falls on 23 August.
