In Maharashtra, data collection for the National Population Register (NPR) is said to begin from May 1 after Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray over-ruled objections by the Congress and NCP. However, the Maharashtra government on Saturday clarified that it will not roll out NPR until a consensus is arrived at among the citizens of the State.
