Rafi Mere Abba: Son recalls life and times of this versatile singer
July 31 marks the 36th death anniversary of Music Legend Mohammed Rafi. Even after all these years, his songs continue to touch lives across the nation. Singing Maestro Rafi sung over 26,000 songs in Hindi and several other Indian languages including Assamese, Konkani, Bhojpuri, Odia, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Sindhi, Kannada, Gujarati, Telugu, Magahi, Maithili and Urdu. Apart from Indian languages, he also sang songs in English, Farsi, Arabic, Creole, and Dutch. Rafi was notable for his versatility, his songs ranged from classical numbers to patriotic songs, sad lamentations to highly romantic numbers, qawwalis to ghazals and bhajans. Today on his death anniversary his son shares his fondest memories of his father, music maestro and a great human being.
