Varanasi Bridge Collapse: Victims Forced to Pay Bribe For Postmortem
News Nation Bureau 16 May 2018, 04:04 PM
At least 15 people were killed, and scores of others were trapped under the debris after a portion of an under-construction flyover collapsed in Varanasi’s cantonment area on Tuesday, 15 May. Rescue operations are still underway. Workers at the postmortem centre in Benaras Hindu University are allegedly asking the families of victims for a bribe to get the autopsy done. One of the workers reportedly left a dead body on the floor when the victim's family refused to pay him any money. The district Magistrate acted swiftly, and the concerned worker was suspended. A case has been registered against him.
