ISRO w ill launch IIT-Bombay Students' Satellite 'Pratham'

NEW DELHI:

“Pratham” satellite designed and manufactured by the students of IIT-Bombay is set to be launched by Indian space agency ISRO. Seven other satellies including the weather satellite will be launched on Monday.

The satellite designed by IIT-Bombay students weighs just 10 kg and is designed to fit in a cube of 30 cm. It has a life span of around fourth months. It was conceptualized with the aim of making IIT-Bombay a centre for space science and technology research.

“The objective of Pratham is to empower the students involved with the skill set required to develop a statellite through various stages of design, analysis, fabrication and testing,” said the official.

A collaboration between IIT-B and other Indian universities will start, to kick off a new era in space sector.
