Akhilesh Yadav is the current Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh assumed the coveted office on 15 March 2012 at the age of 38, thereby becoming the youngest person to have held the top political office in the state. 

Early Life and Education

Akhilesh Yadav was born on 1 July 1973 in Saifai, Etawah District of Uttar Pradesh. He was born to Mulayam Singh Yadav,  former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and Malti Devi.

He did his schooling from Dholpur Military School in Rajasthan, then pursued his Bachelor's and master's degrees in Civil Environmental Engineering at the University of Mysore. He also attained a master's degree in environmental engineering from the University of Sydney, Australia. Yadav tied the knot with Dimple Yadav on 24 November 1999 and has two daughters and a son.

Political Career

Akhilesh made his foray into the national political field by getting elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from Kannauj in a by-election in 2000. He has served as a member of the Committee on Food, Civil Supplies, and Public Distribution in his first tenure as an MP. In 2004, Akhilesh got elected for the second time as a member of Parliament to the 14th Lok Sabha from Kannauj constituency.

Yadav made a hatrick by winning the Kanauj seat for a third time in 2009 general elections and thereby got elected as a member of Parliament to the 15th Lok Sabha. On 10 March 2012, he got appointed as leader of the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh.

He reached the zenith of his political career on 15 March 2012 by becoming the youngest Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, at the age of 38 years. On 3 May 2012 he resigned from the Kannauj seat to further serve as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh after his party won the Assembly elections.

Personal Interests 

In his personal space, Akhilesh is an avid reader, likes to listen to music and watch Bollywood films. Yadav is an ardent football fan and also takes interest in cricket.
