New Delhi:

Amid much dissention and protests over the demonetisation drive by Centre, Congress has scheduled a joint press conference to galvanize all the Opposition party’s support to strengthen their attack on Modi government.

But Congress’ plans to onslaught against government seems to be a non-starter as most of the parties decide to stay away from the conference.

Some Opposition leaders seem to be miffed with Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the last day of the winter session of Parliament without even informing or consulting them.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi had on Monday invited opposition parties across the board to sharpen the attack against Centre on demonetisation and its woes.

Mamata Banerjee – the only all-weather friend of Congress

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee seems to be the only all-weather friend of Congress as she arrived in Delhi on Monday to attend the meeting of opposition parties and joint press conference.

Banerjee will attend the media briefing at Constitution Club along with other Opposition leaders including representatives from DMK and RJD among others.

A top TMC leader told PTI while reacting to CPI-M's pull-out, said, "It is the CPI-M's internal matter. But we feel that it is for them to decide on which side they are."

CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury in Kolkata, said: “We have decided to stay away from the press conference of Opposition parties convened by the Congress because there has been no proper consultation and coordination among the parties.”
