Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections: Telugu Desam Party releases third list of 36 candidates

N Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party released the third list of candidates for the upcoming Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections on Tuesday. The third list consists 36 names. Earlier on Saturday, the party had released second list of 15 candidates for the state Assembly Elections. SVSN Varma would be contesting from Pithapuram (East Godavari district), while Vanthala Rajeswari would be nominated from Rampachodavaram (East Godavari). According to a press release issued by the office of TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh, Kagita Venkata Krishna Prasad would contest from Pedana Assembly constituency in Krishna district.

Last week, the ruling TDP had released its first list of 126 candidates. Chief Minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu announced the list in which his son Nara Lokesh and Naidu himself figured, at a late-night press conference. He called it “Mission 150 Plus”, as the party aimed to win at least 150 out of the total 175 seats in the Assembly. The TDP chief, who released an audio song for the campaign, said he would kick start the campaign from Srikakulam district on March 16 after worshipping Lord Venkateswara atop the Tirumala Hills.

He had said the first list of candidates for the Lok Sabha election, scheduled simultaneously, would be announced on Friday.

“We have balanced various equations and selected the candidates. It is now up to the people to bless these candidates as I take the responsibility of their future in my hands,” Naidu said.

Despite strong opposition, the TDP re-nominated Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao from Sattenapalli constituency in Guntur district. Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishna Murthy and Women Welfare Minister Paritala Sunitha opted out of the contest this time to let their sons fight elections.

Naidu’s son Lokesh too will be fighting his first electoral battle from Mangalagiri constituency in the Amravati capital region. Naidu will be contesting the Assembly election for the seventh time from Kuppam in his native Chittoor district.

Meanwhile, former Union minister Panabaka Lakshmi and her husband Krishnaiah joined the TDP after midnight. The couple so far served the Congress party.

The party has also released list of 25 candidates for the Lok Sabha Elections. Ashok Gajapathi Raju will contest from Vizianagaram, Kesineni Srinivas from Vijayawada, Galla Jayadev from Guntur and N Sivaprasad from Chittoor.
