The district administrations in poll-bound Chhattisgarh are leaving no stone unturned to reach out to voters and make them understand the importance of each vote. On Sunday, a voter awareness programme was organised in the Jashpur district which witnessed the lowest polling percentage in the 2013 Assembly elections. Voters would also be made aware of the importance of ethical electoral participation.

The election commission had directed all district administrations to carry out intensive voter awareness programmes in the state which goes to polls in two phases on November 12 and 20. The programme would focus on community-level participation. Voters would also be informed about the functioning of EVMs and VVPATs. According to a Times of India report, names of new or first-time voters were been added and efforts were being made to include the differently-abled through a door-to-door campaign.

Many districts of Chhattisgarh grapples with Naxalism and thus witness a low voter turnout. Through the awareness programmes, voters would be informed about the elaborate security arrangements in place to contain any untoward situation. The administrations are holding regulars meeting with the security forces to review the security arrangements in the sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas. Polling booths in remote areas would be relocated to safer and accessible locations. The election staff would be given the training to monitor the situation report any untoward situation.

The voters would also be informed about the ethical and wise use of social networking sites and check the misuse of social media before and during the elections. A special committee for the regulation of social media would also be created.
