Delhi Assembly Elections 2020 - Shalimar Bagh Constituency: Shalimar Bagh Vidhan Sabha constituency is an important seat out of the 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi. It is part of the Chandani Chowk Lok Sabha constituency which is made up of Adarsh Nagar, Shalimar Bagh, Shakur Basti, Tri Nagar, Wazirpur, Model Town, Sadar Bazar, Chandani Chowk, Matia Mahal and Ballimaran. In 1993, BJP's Sahib Singh Verma represented the seat and later became the chief minister of Delhi. BJP has won the seat four times with Ravindra Nath Bansal making a hat-trick from 1998 to 2008. The seat has been won by Bandana Kumari of AAP in 2013 and 2015 assembly elections.
In the 2020 Delhi Assembly election, the key candidates in the Shalimar Bagh constituency are Bandana Kumari of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Rekha Gupta of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and JS Nayol of the Indian National Congress.
In the last Delhi Legislative Assembly Elections, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won a landmark victory after it secured 67 of the total 70 seats in the state legislature. With close to 1.5 crore eligible voters, Delhi will witness a three-cornered contest between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress.
As per the schedule released by the Election Commission, voting for all 70 seats of Delhi assembly elections will be held on February 8, 2020. The result will be announced after votes are counted on February 11. The term of the current Assembly elected in 2015 will expire on 22 February 2020.
In 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, there were 185579 voters in this assembly seat. It is part of the Chandani Chowk Lok Sabha constituency which is made up of Adarsh Nagar, Shalimar Bagh, Shakur Basti, Tri Nagar, Wazirpur, Model Town, Sadar Bazar, Chandani Chowk, Matia Mahal and Ballimaran.
Bandana Kumari , the sitting MLA from AAP, will contest against BJP candidate Rekha Gupta and JS Nayol of Congress.
The people in this seat are confronted with many problems like water, traffic congestion and encroachment.
AAP's Bandana Kumari got 62,656 (52.14 percent) of the votes while Rekha Gupta got 51,678 (43.01%) votes. The total voter turnout was 1,20,164.
AAP's Bandana Kumari won the seat in the 2013 elections by 10,651 votes. She got 47,235 to BJP candidate Ravinder Nath Bansal's 36,584. Congress candidate Naresh Kumar Gupta finished third.
