Aam Aadmi Party national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday filed his nomination papers for the February 8 Delhi Assembly Elections from New Delhi constituency after a wait of nearly seven hours at the Returning Officer’s office. Kejriwal was scheduled to file his poll papers on Monday but postponed it for today owing to a delay in his roadshow. However, the AAP chief had to wait for seven hours as there were several other candidates at the Returning Officer’s office to file their nominations.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that there were around 35 candidates without proper nomination papers and they were not allowing the Delhi chief minister to file his nomination. Bharadwaj claimed that the BJP was behind these people.

"Around 35 candidates are sitting at RO office without proper nomination papers, even without names of 10 proposers. They're insisting unless their papers are complete and file nomination, they won't allow CM Kejriwal to file nomination. BJP is behind these people," Bharadwaj said.

Kejriwal was 45th in queue to file his nomination from the New Delhi constituency from where he had registered a landslide victory in 2015. AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said Kejriwal has filed his nomination at around 6.30 pm.

Reacting to the development, Kejriwal's deputy Manish Sisodia also hit out at the BJP for hatching a conspiracy to delay the nomination filing of the chief minister and said that no matter the conspiracies, the saffron party won't be able to stop Kejriwal from returning to power.

"Whatever intrigue the BJP do! They won't be able to stop Arvind Kejriwal from filing nomination and from becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi for the third time. Your plans will not succeed," the Delhi deputy CM said in Hindi.

The Delhi chief minister was earlier supposed to file his nomination papers on Monday but postponed till Tuesday owing to the delay in the rally. The 'Walk With Kejriwal' roadshow was to be followed by the Delhi CM going to Jamnagar House to file his nomination papers, but owing to the delay in the rally, he was unable to reach the SDM office in time. Kejriwal had said the nomination will now be filed on Tuesday, which is also the last day for the filing of nomination for the February 8 polls in Delhi.
