A day before Gujarat goes to polls Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley released the party manifesto on Friday in Surat. The move to release this document comes amid criticism from opposition Congress that the ruling BJP has no vision for the state’s future and was therefore shying away from releasing the manifesto.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had lashed out at the BJP at a rally accusing the party of ignoring the concerns of the people of Gujarat by deciding to skip the manifesto even as campaigning for the first phase of polls ended Thursday.
Rahul, later, tweeted his sentiments. "The BJP has shown unbelievable disrespect towards the people of Gujarat. Campaign is over and STILL no mention of a manifesto for the people, no vision and no ideas presented for Gujarat's future.,†his tweet read.
Jaitley while releasing the manifesto said, “Gujarat’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth is highest in the country. In the last 5 years the state grew at an average rate of 10% amongst large states.â€
The BJP has released its election manifesto a day after campaigning for first phase ended on Thursday evening.
Polling for 89 assembly constituencies in the phase one will be held on December 9. The second phase voting will be held on December 14.
