In a positive move the Election Commission (EC) has today barred the Gujarat state BJP unit the use of,'Pappu', in an electronic advertisement.
The EC called it,'derogatory', while it said that it was clearly meant to refer Rahul Gandhi. Sources in the BJP said that the script in the advertisement did not link it to any individual.
"Before making any election-related advertisement, we have to submit a script to the committee to get a certificate. However, they raised objection to the word 'Pappu', saying it is derogatory. They asked us to remove or replace it," a senior BJP leader said.

The Gujarat Chief Electroral Officer (CEO) BB Swain said that he was not aware of any such developments and will be able to comment only after getting the details.
