The Nationalist Congress Party decided to fight the Gujarat Assembly elections alone after Congress's lack of "serious" intent regarding the alliance, said NCP leader Praful Patel.
The NCP in-charge for Gujarat, Patel, accused Congress saying,“We wanted to contest in Gujarat In alliance with Congress and had talks with them too initially, but Congress did not seem serious and kept on delaying.â€

"The NCP has extended its full support to the Congress and will fight the Assembly polls (in Gujarat) in alliance with the Congress," NCP general secretary Tariq Anwar had claimed on Saturday.

“We will fight alone. Confident that we will do even better alone,†He said.
In August, Patel had said that his party had not yet decided who to support in the Gujarat elections, which came as a blow to the Congress leader, Ahmed Patel.
“Though we are a small party with only two MLAs, we have suddenly become important and people are now searching for these two legislators," he had said.
Earlier last month however, angered by the two party MLAs backing BJP, 500 NCP members had joined Congress in Gujarat.
