Beri Congress MLA Raghuvir Singh Kadian will be the pro-tem speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly. Kadian will take oath as the pro-tem speaker on Monday before the commencement of the Assembly session. His oath to the office will be administered by Haryana Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya.
Kadian was also the speaker of the Haryana Assembly from 2005 to 2009 during the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government. “Haryana Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya has appointed Dr Raghuvir Singh Kadian, MLA Beri, as the pro-tem speaker of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha,” an official statement read.
The oath-taking ceremony of newly elected Haryana MLAs will also be held on Monday. Elections to the 90-member Haryana Legislative Assembly were held on October 21 and the results were announced on October 24.
The state had thrown a fractured mandate with the ruling BJP emerging as the single largest party with 40 seats. The Congress bagged 31 seats and the Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) secured 10 seats. The BJP, led by Manohar Lal Khattar, formed an alliance with Chautala to form the government.
Khattar took oath as the chief minister for the second time and Dushyant Chautala was sworn-in as his deputy. Dushyant Chautala’s father Ajay Chautala, who stepped out of the Tihar jail in Delhi just a day after his son offered support to the BJP, also attended the event. Interestingly, Chautala was one of the fiercest critic of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
