New Delhi:

BJP MLA from Gurugram Umesh Aggarwal won the Haryana Assembly elections 2014 with a record margin of 84,095 votes. Out of total 1,89,965 votes polled, Aggarwal secured 1,06,106 votes, while his nearest rival Gopi Chand Gehlot of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) got only 22,011 votes.

Aggarwal is once again eyeing a record victory in the upcoming Assembly polls to be held in October, and is banking on the work he took up in the last five years.

After being elected, Aggarwal took initiatives to stop demolition drives in 900 metres radius of the Indian Air Force (IAF) ammunition depot. To solve the serious water woes of the people living in the area, Aggarwal met Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and filed a special leave petition in the High Court.

In December 2018, the central government agreed to allow temporary power connections to the residents living in the restricted zone around the Indian Air Force (IAF) depot in Gurugram.

“The area had remained neglected during the previous governments. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had also prohibited the development work in this area. Ministers and MLAs in previous governments have been neglecting the residents of providing electricity and water facilities by making an excuse of stay from the high court. They not only refrained from providing facilities but also used to describe actions of demolition squad of administration by saying that it is illegal to construct within 900 meters,” Aggarwal said.

After sanction of water connection permission from the High Court, Aggarwal was sanctioned about Rs 3.5 crore from the chief minister and started the supply of drinking canal water to the 900 metres area. “Now, there is so much drinking water available in this area that people here would never have thought about,” he said.On December 18, 2018, the High Court gave permission to provide new electricity connections to the 900 metres area.

Aggarwal claimed that he also paved the main roads and streets here along with electricity and water.

“People living in the 900 metres area openly admit that they never imagined the development works and the facility of electricity and water supply done by this government,” added Aggarwal.
