Earlier, Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu invited JMM working president Hemant Soren to form the government, a day after the latter met Murmu and staked claim for the same.
On Tuesday, Soren was formally elected as the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislature party leader. Soren, accompanied by leaders of his party, the Congress and RJD -- which comprised the opposition alliance in the assembly polls -- called on the governor at Raj Bhavan to stake claim to form the new government.
The pre-poll alliance of JMM-Congress-RJD bagged 47 seats with JMM getting 30, Congress winning 16 and RJD winning one in the 81-member assembly. Along with this, the three-member JVM (P) has also extended “unconditional support” to Soren to form government.
