The political battle in Karnataka intensified on Wednesday with both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress-JD-S coalition trying to form the government after the southern state gave a fractured mandate in the Assembly elections.
The BJP emerged as the single largest party in a hung house, whereas the Congress won 78 seats to remain second. The Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) was number three with 38 seats.
However, the twist in the Karnataka tale came when the Congress joined hands with the JD-S and staked claim to form the government in a bid to keep the BJP out of power.
The BJP, being the single largest party, cried foul and went to the Governor to stake claim to form the government. With two sets of contenders staking claims to form the government in the state, the ball was now in Governor Vajubhai Vala’s court.
